Getting My Dream Job

It’s been a hot minute since I last wrote anything in my blog!

Coincidentally a couple of days ago, two of my best friends (shoutout Laine Trees and Syd) remarked on how they had been reading my blog/wanted me to write again. How nice it is to have the support of people I love – thanks guys!

I’ve been busy, super busy. Not LiNK busy but still, I haven’t had as much time to myself and that is because, dum dum dummm – I have a job!

It’s a good job too.

Essentially this nomad is no longer restless. I’ve been able to accomplish the seemingly impossible. I have a job & it is one that encourages me to do what I love most in the world – travel! I am a travel consultant!

It’s been about a month since I started my job and I’ve already booked 11 trips. I’m learning so much about the travel industry, myself, and others. My “speciality” is Las Vegas and so I reach out to people every day who have come to my travel agency in order to book travel to Vegas. That being said, I am trained to book any kind of travel, Vegas just seems to be the place that I focus on.

Booking travel is a job that I’ve always wanted. If I can’t travel around the world, then why not encourage others to do so? I really feel like I was in the right place in the right time. Logistically this job is perfect. My bosses are amazing; I feel encouraged every day. I feel like I am on a step in the right direction.

The crazy thing is that even though my job with LiNK was super tough for a variety of reasons, it really taught me a lot. It taught me to be confident, never to get stressed, how to work various systems on the computer, how to be professional, how to act around new people, and how to phone strangers without it being awkward. Some people thought that my choice to work at LiNK was a bit crazy. Sometimes I even thought that myself! But besides meeting some amazing people, I now know why I went – and that was to prepare me for my job now!

Although I’m no longer technically “restless” or a “nomad”, I will still always be one at heart. As much as I love my job, I also can’t wait until I can start planning my next trip! Sooner or later I will be jet setting across the world and even though it may not be for 5 months or a year at a time, I’m still going to love every minute of it.

Spring Is Early: Feb 2015

February 2015

My new commitment for 2015 is to post a series of photos each month. Hopefully nothing stops me from reaching this goal! Furthermore, I hope there are some new adventures I will embark on to spice it up!

Search, Apply, Repeat

The feeling that washes over you the moment you are denied a job position after interviewing early last week? Heartbreak.

I’ve been applying for jobs steadily over the past two months and it isn’t going very well. Some days I feel more motivated then others but today is not one of those days. Instead it is one in which I feel discouraged.

I sit in my house day in and day out trying to stay busy. After I fan through various websites I try and weed out the jobs I feel my skills are best suited to. I get distracted. I start looking at travel websites planning out my dream vacation. I peruse the teach abroad websites trying to find english schools that will accept an applicant with no university degree. I look at more jobs. Then suddenly the days is over and I feel a bit sad that nothing more has happened.

Today I enquired about my interview at a local coffee shop last week and unfortunately, I did not get the job. I understand that, I truly do! In the end it was further away from my home then I liked and the commute hours would have been impossible on public transit. It’s just that, after two months of nothing, something, anything would have been a whole lot better then this!

Now, to get to the positive: tomorrow, I have my dream job interview. It is to be a travel consultant at a very reputable travel agency and they have chosen me out of numerous applications to come in and interview. I know what I’m going to say and now all I can do is pray that this will be it!

A Whole Year Complete

February 9 to February 14

It’s been a year since I started taking  photo a day. It started as a sort of journalistic  project so that I could remember each and every day of my 24th year. I failed a bit during my time working with LiNK but overall I’d like to say I accomplished my project fairly well! Will I post a photo a day for my 25th year? I don’t know – we’ll see what this year has to bring!
